Sportster

I thought this picture was lost years ago,but Tami found it the other day. I think this was taken just before it was shipped to Japan. I rode this bike to the last race at Ascot Park and all over Southern California.

Cafe Racer redesign

I have been working on the latest Old School Cafe Racer. I want to use some pieces that I haven't used before. The tail section and seat area are always an important piece. I had mocked up one but have decided to toss it out and start over.
Back to the drawing board.

The CR carbs I have been waiting on arrived in LA today. Maybe they will be at the shop in time to get them on and go for a ride before the snow flies

New Blog

Check out this new blogspot, Retro Dudes.

Mark Cash, who has been a friend of mine for nearly thirty years will be selling some of his cool designs and reto items on the blog. I might sell an item or two occasionally.

The site is www.retrodudes.blogspot.com

The Shop Is Growing

I have been very busy. I have a few projects going on. Two of them are nearly complete, I have been waiting on a couple sets of CR Keihin carbs. I have been told they are on their way from Japan, they must be on a rubber raft being towed by a sea otter. One set is for Jorge's cafe racer and the other for my next CB750. I finally finished Andy's engine and need to assemble the freshly cleaned carbs to see if will run for the first time in years.
The website is getting a complete rebuild too. It was getting a bit dated and needs some lovin.

The other big project is a new designated fabrication and shop area. Stay tuned for updates.

Clean Brake

Just a shot of what you might find in a 30 year old brake caliper and what it can look like after a cleaning.
I am just waiting on the tank and this cafe racer will be done.

Working on a New motorcycle?

Earlier in the week , a long time friend came by the shop while I was working on the latest cafe racer. He commented that I was working on a new bike.
I replied that it was the same one I was working on the past two weeks.
No, he said,what is this a 1980 or 1981 ?
He was right it is a 1981.
Then I started thinking about . If you don't count the occasional service or tires I install, this is a new bike for the shop. Most of the stuff is at least 40 plus years old. The more time I spend with motorcycles the more I find myself drawn to older bikes.
I look over at my future project bikes and the newest model was introduced in 1969 and the oldest model dating back to the mid 50's.

1971 Honda CL450 runs great again.

A CL 450 was at the shop today. It had a few issues, after new carb intake insulators, carb adjustments and some ignition system work, it went home running great. I love seeing another old bike being enjoyed again.

Cafe Racer black rim with stainless steel spokes.

Tools out and rim covered with vinyl tape.
The spokes can easily scratch the powder coated rim and cut through masking tape.

Laced and ready to true.

New rim strip, now for the tube and tire.
Always use a new rim strip and new tube when installing a new tire.

Final check and balancing.
Now for the front wheel.
