Building My Cafe Racer
Building my cafe racer took longer than any other build I have done. This was because I worked on it after everything else. I wanted to use the whitewalls from the beginning and didn't want to use the stock oil tank. I have built several Honda CB's before and had plenty of parts not to mention an entire bike with only 4000 original miles, but believe me it was crusty. It had been sitting in a barn since 1980 and not ridden for a few years before that.
I tore the engine down and completely went through it first. Then I made a tail section to conceal the battery and all the electricals. The tank was next, kept it simple a stock 750 unit worked the sides in and carefully removed the stock gas cap and installed the flush pop up unit . Installed all new electrical components and used the controls from a newer Honda.
I have grown tired of clip ons and clubman bars so opted for the Renthals, I was working on my Montesa and set the Renthals on the 750 and liked the look. There are several custom made pieces on the bike including the simple mount for the Motogadget gauge.
The color was a last minute decision. I was thinking about a satin black but that too has been done over and over again. It turned out better than I had hoped. All and all it was worth the wait and time spent.
