Andys Toy

Andy picked up his 81 CB900F Friday. His brother bought this bike brand new and put about 27,000 miles on it before it developed several problems. It sat about 10 years with no compression on 2 and 3 as well as a charging issues. We milled the head checked everything out fixed what was needed, rebuilt the carbs, fixed the charging issues, rebuilt the brakes forks and a few other items and it runs great again.
My buddy Mark met Andy several years ago at Mid Ohio Vintage Days. I met him about 3 years ago and we have all met up at Mid Ohio and Barber as well as other visits. Andy rides just about everyday. I called him the other day to see what he was up to, and he told me he went for a ride ( about 325 miles) for fun. He has a pretty good collection of bikes, Harley, Honda, BMW and his new favorite Moto Guzzi.
I really enjoy getting a bike like this running again for someone that I know will ride it and enjoy it as much as Andy will.

Montesa 63M

The Montesa 63M project seems like it will never end, but it is getting dangerously close. I gave up trying to find a new cylinder and sent mine to Superior Sleeve in Oregon. Charlie called me when it arrived, then a few days later called and said he found a good cylinder at his shop, I couldn't believe it. He bored it to fit my new Wiseco piston cut the head and supplied other parts and a wealth of knowledge. I should have it back soon and all I need is a pipe that should be coming soon. Maybe I will get to ride it this summer.

I wish I could find a pipe like the one in this picture.

1969 Honda SL350

+

My SL350 is one of my favorite rides. I have ridden it just the way it was found, with the exception of new tires and a tune up. The seat was pretty worn out and it was a very uncomfortable,so I bought new foam rubber and a seat cover off of ebay. The cover was sewn about 1/2 inch off center and a bit twisted. I took it to Bob Snively of Snively Upholstery and he was able to make it fit. Bob  literally made a silk purse out of a sows ear and it is much more comfortable.
I am tempted to do a complete restoration, but it would be a shame to loose the character of this bike.
For now I will keep riding it the way it is.

Daytona Bike Week, Maybe Next Year

This morning I got up and left for the shop. I snapped the top photo while standing on my back steps. Then I got in my truck and, I called Steve, we have been friends since elementary school, to ask if he was still leaving for Florida today. Yes he and Shirley had left and were already 200 miles from Daytona. He sent this photo about 5:00 pm He is behind the camera. I guess I can't be too jealous since I did the same thing, the day after Christmas, when it snowed about 12 inches.

Wow another snow storm. This is a long winter. I guess it just makes me appreciate spring even more.
